First off, if you’ve never read Inhabitat, you should add it to your RSS feeder and/or sign up for their weekly email. They’re worth that dreaded weekly email because they showcase various sustainable products.
Secondly, to add to the Recyclable Fashion show, a few months ago, Montreal artists were challenged to transform post-consumer products into exciting couture. Below are some products that were featured.
This all being said, AND I’M NOT DETERRING PEOPLE FROM USING RECYCLABLE PRODUCTS BECAUSE RECYCLING IS IMPORTANT, but I feel like people gravitate to using recyclable products for couture when there are alternative methods for couture. There are other aspects to reduce, reuse, recycle. In fact, recycle is the last part of that whole phrase. Instructables has a dress (that I love) called the “infinity dress”. I think it’s incredibly cool mainly because there are so many different ways to wear it. It’s the epitome of reuse 🙂 Girls, think about that little black dress that “makes guys go wild”…now think if you had an “infinite” amount of little black dresses :p. Anyways, here’s one way you can wear it:
Just my two cents. You can find the infinity dress here. Enjoy!

When we started the recycling fashion show project, I admit that I was puzzled as to how this would relate back to the course topic. Yes, it was creative, but was there more to it than that? In retrospect, I found this reading particularly appropriate: Collaboration in Design Teams: How Social Interaction Shapes the Product by Brereton, M. F et al.
Getting a bunch of creative people to agree on a united vision for a project is difficult. Several group members were hesitant to accept the ideas of others. Some of these group members were less motivated to contribute when the group did not choose to work on their idea. At one point, I was worried that the project would not be completed. However, each and every team member came through to create an interesting final product. Although some parts of the project were finished at the last minute, I think the group had a shared vision and produce and very creative fashion show.
I am still left to wonder about the elusive nature of creativity. If it can come so quickly when we are under a deadline, why can it seem impossible to think of an idea when the deadline is more distant?

We are not the only ones. I am not writing about extraterrestrial but about designers. “Trash clothes” have their fashion show since 1983. There is also a festival in Santa Fe for recycled objects. However, nothing is better than our princess, knights or hands.
At the beginnig, the recycling was used for old tools in metal. This metal was melt and forged again.
The idea of reused garbage is not really new but the esthetical aspect is. For example, in the paper “Design and the Play Instinct”, we have seen a sculpture of Picasso who used a bicycle seat and handles bar. Today, around the world, lots of people use garbage in this way.
I have to go. My trash can is full, I should see if something is still useful.
